🔄 Retention & RTM Framework
STAGE 1
Player Retention
Teams retain players from their existing squad before the auction.
STAGE 2
RTM Option
A franchise can use the Right to Match option where permitted under the applicable auction rules.
STAGE 3
Auction Bidding
Other teams bid for players who enter the auction.
STAGE 4
Final Squad
Teams complete their squads based on their available purse, player requirements and applicable squad rules.
📋 Player Retention Policy (Player Retention Rules)

BCCI guidelines allow each franchise to retain up to 6 players through a combination of direct pre-auction retentions and Right to Match (RTM) cards:

  • Indian vs. Overseas Caps: A franchise can have a maximum of 5 capped players among its retention and RTM selections. The squad can include capped Indian and overseas players within the applicable rules.
  • Uncapped Indian Player Policy: A franchise can include up to 2 uncapped players within the six-player retention and RTM limit. The retention value for an uncapped player is ₹4 Crore.
  • Graduated Deduction Tiers: Direct retentions trigger predetermined deductions against the team’s salary purse.
🎯 Right to Match (RTM) Card Rules

The RTM card gives a team the option to reclaim an eligible player during the auction:

  • Card Availability: The number of RTM cards depends on the franchise’s direct retention. A team can use retention and RTMs for a maximum of 6 players combined. For example, retaining 4 players directly leaves 2 RTM slots.
  • Execution & Incremental Bid Rule: Once a team uses its RTM card, the highest bidder can make one final bid increase. The original franchise then gets the option to match the increased amount and retain the player.

Expected Venues & Home Grounds

The home and away series is anticipated for the IPL in 2027. All franchises are likely to have home games at their home venue, depending on the final schedule.

🏏 Batting-Friendly Grounds
Wankhede, Chinnaswamy and Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium are known for producing high-scoring IPL matches. Their conditions often suit stroke play and aggressive batting.
🌀 Spin-Friendly Grounds
Conditions exist at Chepauk and Ekana that have allowed spinners to impact the middle overs. The nature of pitch behavior could be altered based on conditions prevailing.
📐 Ground Dimensions & Dew
Boundary sizes differ across venues and can influence batting plans. Dew can also affect bowling conditions during evening matches, especially in the second innings.
AHMEDABAD, GUJARATPrimary Tenant: GT
Narendra Modi Stadium
The Narendra Modi Stadium is one of India’s largest cricket stadiums. It offers a big playing arena and different pitches. The dimensions of this stadium may affect hitting boundaries and running between wickets.
MUMBAI, MAHARASHTRAPrimary Tenant: MI
Wankhede Stadium
Wankhede Stadium is famous for the easy going conditions of the stadium, including fast outfield. Being located near the sea, Wankhede also brings humidity and dew on some occasions.
BENGALURU, KARNATAKAPrimary Tenant: RCB
M. Chinnaswamy Stadium
Chinnaswamy has relatively short boundaries and a fast outfield. These conditions often support aggressive batting and high-scoring matches.
CHENNAI, TAMIL NADUPrimary Tenant: CSK
M.A. Chidambaram Stadium
Chepauk has always been a ground that helps spinners. Slow pitches do pose difficulties in making strokes, particularly during the middle overs.
KOLKATA, WEST BENGALPrimary Tenant: KKR
Eden Gardens
The Eden Gardens ground is known to have a quick outfield and to be favorable for attack-oriented batsmen. Both spinners and fast bowlers can prove vital for a match.
HYDERABAD, TELANGANAPrimary Tenant: SRH
Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium
Many high-scoring IPL games have been played in Hyderabad. The good bounce on the pitch is an asset for batters, whereas bowlers must adapt themselves.
NEW DELHI, DELHIPrimary Tenant: DC
Arun Jaitley Stadium
The Delhi surface has historically offered slower conditions at times. Its relatively compact boundaries can still give batters opportunities to score quickly.
LUCKNOW, UTTAR PRADESHPrimary Tenant: LSG
Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium
Ekana has often produced slower pitches where shot selection matters. Bowlers who vary pace can find useful conditions during the match.
JAIPUR, RAJASTHANPrimary Tenant: RR
Sawai Mansingh Stadium
Jaipur ground is known to provide an even platform for both batting and bowling. Size of boundaries and pitch preparations may affect the type of scores.
MULLANPUR, PUNJABPrimary Tenant: PBKS
Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium
Mullanpur stadium is Punjab Kings’ home ground. The facility’s state-of-the-art setup creates an ideal environment for IPL games, whereas the nature of the pitch would be decided by preparation and climatic conditions.
